Our first knowledge of the Adams family begins in Ireland with the birth of Francis Adams in 1697. Francis and many of his church congregation could not tolerate the conditions in Ireland any longer by 1772, and many in the congregation came to America, landing in Charles Town South Carolina Dec 20, 1773. Francis and others received free land, and thus began the Adams Family of America. The name Francis (Frank) is very prominent in the Adams Family and most generations have individuals with this name. A number of the Adams Family joined in the western migration via way of South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, California. Along the way a number of families stayed behind or moved to other states. There are at least 12 generations of Adams descendants from Francis since they arrived in the United States. Many of the spouses were Scotch Irish, and represent families such as Means, Chambers, Johnston, Mayes, McShan, Weir, and many more. Many of these families moved together through several states. There is a lot of information located under notes within the Genealogy files. Information is presented in this section when it is to large to fit in the note section. |
